From Water Jewels-
​Water Jewels
Exquisite, sparkling
Vibrant and spirited,
stunning bundles of hypnotic energy
skilled masters of imaginative water dance
 
sporting dazzling color,
swimming tirelessly
with the strength of well-trained gymnasts
they are graceful as they are muscular,
creative as they are powerful  
 
the light plays against their vivid patterns, 
sunrays bouncing off smooth scales as they caress the water
like shimmering sequins animated in a liquid realm,
mesmerizing all who watch.

​From The Sound of Stillness-
​Egret
Standing on spindle-straight legs
she is sleek, slender
snow-white
statuesque

Stepping softly in the shallows
surveying her domain
she is one with the water
the sun
the sky

Sensitively seeking
a sound
a splash
in silent sophistication 
she searches, stretching her neck
scanning all that surrounds her

Seductively she casts her spell,
then sees her reflection
silhouetted on the surface

Her soliloquy is held secret,
solitary and serious.
She is strong.
She endures the spans of stillness,
and stays and stays and stays.
